Tintin was just a lot of fun. I used to watch the tv show a lot when I was younger, and Spielberg was able to capture the essence of the show very well. He nailed pretty much all of the characters, the humour and the style of the show. The motion capture animation was simply stunning. The 3D was very well done. The story kept you interested without getting too outlandish.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the movie was the pretty real theme of alcoholism with the captain. There was a gag or two about him drinking, but he also suffered some pretty real consequences about it. Also, there is quite a bit of death in this movie. The death sequences weren’t done off camera like is more common in animated movies, but instead you can see a shoot that dude in the skull kind of death scene. I was not expecting that but I liked it.
Anyway you look at it, I have trouble trying to find any real fault in Tintin. A very enjoyable movie.
